One small but telling detail is the “Fiat Ritmo” name, clearly printed on both the original packaging and the baseplate of the car. This reveals its European market orientation, since in the United States the real car was sold as the Fiat Strada. Adding to its collector appeal is the “FRANCE” marking on the baseplate, which ties this model to a specific phase in Hot Wheels production history.
In the early 1980s, Mattel shifted part of its Hot Wheels production to France to better meet European market demands and compete with brands like Majorette and Norev.
